Weekly Rewind

The new books on my shelves and my week in a nutshell.

Throughout my student teaching semester I was using my weekend post as a way to let people know what’s going on in my life, so I’ve decided to rename my weekend post because this feature is more personal than just what books I’ve received. The Weekly Rewind will be about what’s going on with me and my blog, as well as about the books I’ve added to my shelves. My Life and Blog

Life: My first week back was a doozy. I feel like I’ve barely slept all week despite going to bed soooo early most nights. We are starting our next novel study in English, and wrapping up our current unit in history, so I’ve been busy with planning pre-reading activities in one and writing the final exam and study guide for the other. Things I could have done over break, but how would I live if I wasn’t mildly stressed at all times? Lol. Honestly, though, the break I had was exactly the break I needed, and though I worked my butt off both over my planning and after school to get it all done this entire week, I feel confident about all of my classes.

My husband’s family came last weekend and were here until Wednesday. It was a bit exhausting to be going back to work and entertaining at the same time, but it is always nice to see family. I’m glad that life will be a bit quieter this weekend, though.

Blog and reading: I couldn’t even think about this blog this last week. I do hope to get a couple of posts typed up this weekend, though. I’ve already been thinking about my goals for 2018, so plan on participating in this week’s TTT. I also miss posting my WoWs, even if they rarely get comments/views. Looking for interesting upcoming titles is literally (and I do mean literally) my favorite pastime. I’ve been doing pretty well on the reading front. I’ve picked up a couple of MG novels that are quick and easy (and one of my goals is to read more MG so I have more books to recommend to my students). I’ve also been immersed in my annual reread of the Scott Pilgrim graphic novel series. I seriously love them so much. I’ve been listening to Dumplin’ on my commute and have been reading some novel writing guides (I just like reading them so I’m thinking about reading). I did have a serious break through in how I want to approach the novel I started writing last year, though, and I very much plan on finally writing it this summer.

The Hazel Wood by Melissa Albert

A girl’s grandmother writes dark fairy tales that might actually exist. This sounds really intriguing, but man are my friend’s reviews all over the place.

S.T.A.G.S by M.A. Bennett

I’ve been really excited for this one, but have to admit that I’m not loving it. I will always pick up a mystery or thriller set at a boarding school or about a slightly threatening group of students, but the premise of this one is just kind of silly. [Minor Spoiler that is totally in the synopsis that I just reread to verify: from what I am gathering from what I’ve read so far (about 20%) a group of students is invited by a group of powerful students to a weekend away at one of their vacation homes–only to be “hunted” by said students–but, like, how would parents or teachers not figure out what happened if one of the students gets hurt or dies? It’s silly. END] I do love that cover, though.

The Wedding Date by Jasmine Guillory

A fake wedding date to save face in front of an ex turns into love…too bad it’s long distance. I really need to read more adult chick-lit-y books. They were always my favorite in my 20s.

What I snagged from the library

Gunslinger Girl by Lyndsay Ely

So westerns are kind of my least favorite, but I couldn’t resist this cover (despite the hideous presented by Patterson banner) or its buzz. So here’s hopping it’s the exception.

The Pages Between Us by Lindsey Levitt and Robin Mellom

This is an adorable MG about two friends that start sharing a notebook after they find out they only have one class together. I’m in the middle of this one now and am loving it.

Batman Nightwalker by Marie Lu

I couldn’t get into the first book of the DC series, but Batman has long been my favorite superhero (and I’ve nothing but good things for Lu’s writing).

Limehouse Golem

I frankly don’t remember seeing any kind of trailer for this…nor do I remember ordering it. When I saw it was ready to pick up, I was, like: “The Limehouse Golem wtf is that?” I do love a good Jack the Ripper yarn, though, so I hope this is good. Anybody see this one yet?
