What I’m Excited For: Book, Movie, and Streaming (oh my!) Releases Week of 7.7.20

I spend an exorbitant amount of time looking for upcoming releases in both books and movies. I’ve been wanting to create a new weekly post for Natflix&Books for awhile and decided this would be the perfect post for my movie and book blog. On Tuesdays I’ll be featuring not just what is being released into the world of books each week, but also the movies you can look forward to on both DVD and in the theater. (Although, to be fair, I’m going to focus on the releases that I’m personally looking forward to.) So without further ado, here’s what I’m excited for this week.

Book Releases

B*Witch by Paige McKenzie

Two rival covens have to come together when a fellow witch dies. I’m about halfway through this one. It’s not quite what I want it to be, but it’s pretty entertaining.

The Shadows by Alex North

Oh, this cover. I love it so much. I’ve been reading this one, too, and am enjoying it it. It’s creepy and interesting. It reminds me of the Slender Man case and has some intriguing ideas about lucid dreaming.

An Education in Ruin by Alexis Bass

A “sophisticated” YA thriller about a girl who wants to take down a pair of brothers at a prep school. This sounds right up my alley.

Not Like the Movies by Kerry Winfrey

A companion to the rom-com Waiting for Tom Hanks. This cover is adorable.

Faith: Taking Flight by Julie Murphy

A teen girl finds out she can fly at the same time that her favorite show begins filming in her town.

Burn Our Bodies Down by Rory Power

This cover is just amazing, plus the words twisty thriller. I don’t really know anything beyond that.

Dress Coded by Carrie Firestone

A MG novel about a group of eighth grade girls who start a podcast to protest their school’s sexist dress code.

The Golden Cage by Camilla Lackberg

The scorned wife of a billionaire plots his downfall. I’ve been turning to twisty adult novels more and more.

Fraternity: Stories by Benjamin Nugent

A group of stories about a fraternity

Gatecrasher: How I Helped the Rich Become Famous and Ruin the World by Ben Widdicombe

From  NY’s premiere social columnist (who I’ve never heard of). Gossipy memoirs can be fun.

Streaming Releases

Palm Springs

“When carefree Nyles (Andy Samberg) and reluctant maid of honor Sarah (Cristin Milioti) have a chance encounter at a Palm Springs wedding, things get complicated the next morning when they find themselves unable to escape the venue, themselves, or each other.” (Movie/Hulu/7.10)

Greyhound

A navy war movie with Tom Hanks. (Movie/Apple+/7.10)

The Old Guard

Immortal Mercenaries! (Movie/Netflix/7.10)

That’s what I’m excited for this week. Are you looking forward to any of these books, films, or shows?
