Weekly Rewind
The new books on my shelves and my week in a nutshell.
This post is linked to Stacking the Shelves over at Tynga’s Reviews and the Sunday Post over at Caffeinated Book Reviewer.
Life and Blog
Life: One more week to go (really two, but the second week are all just faculty meetings and won’t be full days). Now I need to start buckling down and getting all my grading done in order to finalize my grades and write all of those student comments. Summer is looming, though, and man am I ready for a break. Remote learning hasn’t been nearly as hard for me as it has been for a lot of teachers (my school implemented a plan that worked really well), but it was still a crazy experience.
Blog and reading: This week I posted my regular look at new book, streaming, and dvd releases: What I’m Excited For and a Wow. I finished reading Again Again by e. lockhart, which I loved (look for my review on Monday) and am still reading A Good Marriage. I also got my copy of The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes yesterday. I’ve only read the first couple of chapters, but felt pulled in immediately.
What I’m watching: We got back to our watching of Deadwood. We are about halfway through the second season. Westerns really aren’t my genre, and I’m annoyed by its treatment of women, but I like the time spent with my husband … but I’m choosing our next series.
New books: I have a handful of pretties to share this week. So without further ado, I hope you’re all having fabulous weekends! Happy Memorial Day!
For Review
I’m excited for reimagining history story that follows a spy for the Revolutionary War (doesn’t it always seem to be WWII).
This is apparently a “gripping thriller,” and I’m a fan of a good gripping thriller.
A Sky Painted Gold by Laura Wood
A 17 year old is swept up by the glamour of a brother and sister that move into the long-empty mansion across the way. I loving the cover.
My Eyes Are Up Here by Laura Zimmerman
This sounds like a sweet YA novel about a teen who wears a 30H sized bra and her connection with her new teammates.
A domestic thriller that follows couples who swapped partners after a night of too much drinking.
What I bought
The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins
The prequel to the Hunger Games series that follows President Snow when he was an 18 year-old mentor to the female tribute from District 12.
Well that’s it for me this week. Feel free to leave a link to whatever weekend post you do (Stacking the Shelves, The Sunday Post, etc). I love to see what books people have recently snagged and especially enjoy hearing about my fellow bloggers’ weeks. I hope you are all having a fabulous weekend!
Nice to have an end in sight before summer break. Hopefully the last week or so goes smoothly. Love the title My Eyes Are Up Here. 🙂 Hope you enjoy the long weekend!

I hope you enjoy The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes! It’s one I’m sure I’ll read at some point but I’m not in a burning hurry to do so… I’m definitely ignoring all the haters (many who kicked off before the book even released!) and will read it with an open mind. 🙂

I’m very curious about the Hunger Games prequel. Not sure if I’m going to get it – the kindle edition is really expensive, so I’ll probably wait a little while. I have seen some good reviews, though.
LOL I totally get that you want to choose the next series you’re going to watch. Have you watched Casa del Papel (Money Heist)? I started this last week, and I’m already on season 3 – I love that show. And it really helps my Spanish to watch it in the original language with subtitles.
Have a wonderful week ahead, stay safe and healthy 🙂

I’m glad you’re enjoying the new Hunger Games book. I didn’t preorder because I wasn’t planning on a pandemic. I thought I’d just go to Target and pick it up. I hope summer gets to you quickly!

Glad that your remote learning has gone well. I hear a lot of different things from teachers and school kids alike and not all are happy with how Corona has changed things. Wishing you a wonderful Memorial Day weekend and happy reading. Stay safe and well!
