What I’m Excited For: Book and Movie Releases Week of 11.5.19

I spend an exorbitant amount of time looking for upcoming releases in both books and movies. I’ve been wanting to create a new weekly post for Natflix&Books for awhile and decided this would be the perfect post for my movie and book blog. On Tuesdays I’ll be featuring not just what is being released into the world of books each week, but also the movies you can look forward to on both DVD and in the theater each week. (Although, to be fair, I’m going to focus on the releases that I’m personally looking forward to.) So without further ado, here’s what I’m excited for this week.

Man I don’t know who decided to make November 5th the day ALL the books you’ve ever wanted were released, but I wish I could call out for the week so I could get to each and every one of these.

Book Releases

The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern

I’m a few chapters into this and am enjoying it so far. The style is similar to The Night Circus, but the story is unique.

The Toll by Neal Shusterman

The third and final book of the Scythe trilogy. I’m super excited for this one.

Winterwood by Shea Ernshaw

Magical woods and a beautiful cover, what more could you want?

Songs From the Deep by Kelly Powell

Everybody in a small coastal town assumes that the latest death is the work of the sirens, but one teen girl isn’t so sure. I’m intrigued by the idea of sirens in a murder mystery that didn’t commit the murder.

The Guinevere Deception by Kiersten White

Reimagining Arthurian legend to have Guinevere be a changeling sent to protect King Arthur by Merlin. I like the cover.

Constellation of Roses by Miranda Asebedo

A witchy book about a girl sent to live with a special group of women.

The How & the Why by Cynthia Hand

A story of adoption told from the perspective of both the daughter given up when she was a teen and the girl who had to give up her baby. This sounds poignant.

Call Down the Hawk by Maggie Stiefvater

So I read the first two books of the Raven Boys series years ago and then for some reason never finished them. I feel like I’ll have to reread the first two and then finish the series before picking this up (it follows Ronan!), but I’m still excited for this one anyway.

DVD Releases

The Kitchen

The wives of 70s NY gangsters continue the business after they get put in jail. I’m surprised this didn’t get more attention with these three actors at the helm.

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark

I just can’t resist a scary movie, even if it looks as silly as this one.

Theater Releases

Doctor Sleep

Even though I don’t read everything King puts out, I do find that I usually love the movies/shows based on his work. As contentious as it is, I loved The Shining (the movie) and cannot wait for this.

Last Christmas

I would never see this is theaters, but it looks pretty cute.

I don’t think Hollywood will ever tire of making these large-scale war films.

Small Screen Premieres

His Dark Materials

That cast! Anybody else excited for this one (I know it premiered yesterday).

That’s what I’m excited for this week. Are you looking forward to any of these books or films?

  1. I enjoyed the first episode of His Dark Materials! We get it on Sunday nights here in the UK. 🙂

Last Christmas is one I’ll be seeing at the cinema if I can make the time. I’ve been craving a new Christmas movie and it looks sweet.
