What I’m Excited For: Book and Movie Releases Week of 9.17.19

I spend an exorbitant amount of time looking for upcoming releases in both books and movies. I’ve been wanting to create a new weekly post for Natflix&Books for awhile and decided this would be the perfect post for my movie and book blog. On Tuesdays I’ll be featuring not just what is being released into the world of books each week, but also the movies you can look forward to on both DVD and in the theater each week. (Although, to be fair, I’m going to focus on the releases that I’m personally looking forward to.) So without further ado, here’s what I’m excited for this week.

Book Releases

The Babysitter Coven by Kate Williams

The nostalgia level for two of my favorite series growing up (The Babysitters Club and The Secret Circle) are high. Plus that cover is one of my favorites of the year.

Suggested Reading by Dave Connis

A bookworm fights back when her school bans some classic and meaningful texts. I’m excited for this one.

The Liars of Mariposa Island by Jennifer Mathieu

This follows two modern teens interspersed with their mom’s POV from the past. I’ve enjoyed work from this author in the past (The Truth About Alice — which was also a multi-POV).

DVD Releases

Dark Phoenix

I’ve long loved The X-Men, but I have to admit that my excitement for these films have waned over the years. The last film was not awesome, and this one got some pretty dismal reviews. I’ll definitely be watching this, but I can understand why the producers are putting them on the shelf for now.

Movie Releases

Ad Astra

Brad Pitt (who’s never really gone away) is having quite the moment. This is getting rave reviews and follows a man on a quest to find his father 20 years after his failed space mission.

Downton Abbey

I didn’t watch the show, but I imagine quite a few of you did. Hope this is awesome!

That’s what I’m excited for this week. Are you looking forward to any of these books or films?

  1. I think the Liars of Mariposa Island sounds pretty good. And I never saw Dark Phoenix either- I heard bad things but I really want to to see if myself and see how bad it is, sadly lol.

I’m really curious about the Downton Abbey movie since I was a pretty big fan of the show.

  2. My husband really wants to see Ad Astra! I seriously need to start Downton Abbey. I’m seeing it everywhere lately and I clearly need to get on that one.

  3. I stopped watching Downton Abbey TV show at the end of S3. I think I’d want to catch up before watching the movie although I have friends who have loved it!

The Babysitters Coven sounds fun and I’ve seen good reviews for it.

    Have a good weekend!
