Weekly Rewind 9.7.19

Weekly Rewind

The new books on my shelves and my week in a nutshell.

Throughout my student teaching semester I was using my weekend post as a way to let people know what’s going on in my life, so I decided to rename my weekend post because this feature is more personal than just what books I’ve received. Five (I can’t believe it’s been five years!) years later, Weekly Rewind continues to be about what’s going on with me and my blog as well as about the books I’ve added to my shelves. This post is linked to Stacking the Shelves over at Tynga’s Reviews and the Sunday Post over at Caffeinated Book Reviewer.

My Life and Blog

Life: Man, last weekend I was so flipping tired I just couldn’t even drag myself to the computer. The first couple of weeks of school have been good, but so, so tiring. It’s always a process to get students back into shape after summer. I have a good group this year, though, and am feeling a bit better today. I even have Monday all nice and planned out, so I can take the weekend easy.

Blog and reading: I did get my regular look at new book and movie releases posted this week: What I’m Excited For. I’m currently reading It for real. I started it a couple of years ago and got about half-way through before putting it aside. I tried to just pick up where I left off, but my book memory is not awesome so I had to start over. I read Pumpkinheads the day I snagged it from the library and LOVED it.

What I’m watching: We finished the second season of Mindhunter last weekend and enjoyed it (although maybe not quite as much as the first season). We’ve watched the first couple of episodes of The Righteous Gemstones starring John Goodman on HBO, which is interesting. Watchmen got a release date for October 20th. So excited!

New books: I have some pretties to share with you this week. So without further ado, I hope you’re all having fabulous weekends!

For Review

The Beautiful by Renee Ahdieh

This sounds like Dracula meets Jack the Ripper, which I’m here for.

Our Year in Love and Parties by Karen Hattrup

A love story that takes place at four different parties over the course of a year.

The Furies by Katie Lowe

A murder at an all-girl school + witches. This is basically the novel I’m currently working on, but I’m still excited.

In the Hall With the Knife by Diane Peterfreund

I’m curious how this novel based on the board game Clue shapes up. And it’s the first in a series!

The Athena Protocol by Shamim Sarif

Female spies!

What I Bought

I haven’t had the chance to watch this yet, but I’m sooooooo excited!

What I snagged from the library

Pumpkinheads by Rainbow Rowell

This graphic novel about two friends on their last day of work at a pumpkin patch was so flipping adorable. I loved it.

Best Friends by Shannon Hale

Real Friends is my favorite graphic novel. I’m definitely reading this this weekend.

Well that’s it for me this week. Feel free to leave a link to whatever weekend post you do (Stacking the Shelves, The Sunday Post, etc). I love to see what books people have recently snagged and especially enjoy hearing about my fellow bloggers’ weeks. I hope you are all having a fabulous weekend!

  1. I need to get The Beautiful, that one looks so good. The athena Protocol sounds kinda awesome too.

And a graphic novel by Shannon Hale? Cool!

    Have a great weekend!

  2. I’ve got Pumpkinheads on request so when it comes in, it’s mine! I hope I love it as much as you. Dracula meets Jack the Ripper, plus it’s in New Orleans so I can’t wait! The Clue Mystery sounds good too. Glad you are finally finding a back to school groove. Hope you have an awesome week!

  3. The “back to school” type of tired is serious. I remember those days. I hope it was a great start to a new school year. I hope to watch the new season of Mindhunter soon…I have to be in the mood for that one! Maybe this fall? I hope you have a great week and happy reading!

  4. Ahhhh, I wonder if It is better than the movie? I haven’t read it but I’m not a huge fan of the movie lol. I hope you have a great week!

  5. I hope your weekend has been as ‘easy’ as you wanted it to be!
I love the look of your new books. Especially ‘The Furies’ looks and sounds really good to me.
Have a great week and happy reading!
