Weekly Rewind

The new books on my shelves and my week in a nutshell.

Throughout my student teaching semester I was using my weekend post as a way to let people know what’s going on in my life, so I decided to rename my weekend post because this feature is more personal than just what books I’ve received. Five years later, Weekly Rewind continues to be about what’s going on with me and my blog, as well as about the books I’ve added to my shelves. This post is linked to Stacking the Shelves over at Tynga’s Reviews and the Sunday Post over at Caffeinated Book Reviewer.

My Life and Blog

Life: The weather getting nicer, the kids are getting crazier, and I am counting down the days. I can almost taste summer break.

Blog and reading: I posted my weekly round up of book and movie releases in the post What I’m Excited For as well as a WoW. I’m currently rereading Eliza and Her Monsters and finished my reread of I Hate Everyone But You. I’ve been kind of reading The Rest of the Story and I just picked up Laura Dean Keeps Breaking Up With Me.

What I’m watching: I’m so excited for the final GoT, but my husband is out of town Sunday night and I have to wait until Monday…because that is what true love is. I honestly don’t think this season is nearly as bad a lot of others seem to. It certainly isn’t the BEST season, but I don’t at all think it is coming out of nowhere for Dany to have torched the city. She has been single-minded about getting on the throne the entire time, and then she finds out a. the first dude she’s loved since her husband died is her nephew b. even though she’s like, “whatever, people in our family are totally down with incest”, he’s like, “no thank you, ma’am”, c. that she doesn’t have this iron clad claim to the throne, and d. instead of everyone thinking she’s going to be this awesome queen they’re like, “have you seen this Jon guy? not only is he this totally amazing ruler he can ride a dragon!” I know, I know. Breaker of chains and whatever but she’s snapping. They couldn’t have just let her stop when the bells ring because that’s not how stories work. Anyway, I’m going to be living like a monk from 9pm on Sunday until whatever time. No phone, no tv, no radio, and I’ll have to avoid all of my co-workers. Lol.

New books: I have a handful of pretties to share with you. So without further ado, I hope you’re all having fabulous weekends!

For Review

Mrs. Everything by Jennifer Weiner

This book that follows a pair of sisters sounds like a departure from the 90s chick lit that Weiner is known for, and I’m here for it. I’m really excited for this one.

Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson

Despite never really getting into fantasy I just cannot resist them every once in awhile. This one has magical libraries, so…how could I say no.

Waiting for Tom Hanks by Kerry Winfrey

Tom Hanks is pretty much the perfect dude. This rom-com looks like a fun way to spend an afternoon…just like a Tom Hanks movie.

Ordinary Girls by Blair Thornburgh

This is a modern retelling of Sense & Sensibility.

The Language of Fire by Stephanie Hemphill

A reimagining of Joan of Arc told in verse. I snagged this because I teach Joan of Arc and the Hundred Years’ War.

What I snagged from the library

Laura Dean Keeps Breaking Up With Me by Mariko Tamaki

I’m very excited for this graphic novel about a girl who may not have the best girlfriend.

Again, but Better by Christine Riccio

After spending the majority of her college career following the perfect path, a young woman decides to spend a semester abroad to break out of her comfort zone.

I’m pretty intrigued by this thriller starring McConaughey and Hathaway. It’s about a man whose ex wife comes to him to help kill her current husband.

Well that’s it for me this week. Feel free to leave a link to whatever weekend post you do (Stacking the Shelves, The Sunday Post, etc). I love to see what books people have recently snagged and especially enjoy hearing about my fellow bloggers’ weeks. I hope you are all having a fabulous weekend!

  1. How sweet of you to wait for your husband. That sounds like something I would do. We have watched it and I found it okay but have issues. Hope it’s all you hope for. You grabbed some good books and I’m wanting to read Waiting for Tom Hanks this summer. I grew up watching some of his rom-coms and thought he was the best. Hope the time to your summer break passes quickly. I can’t imagine how hyped up the kids are this time of year.
