Weekly Rewind 1.5.19

Weekly Rewind

The new books on my shelves and my week in a nutshell.

Throughout my student teaching semester I was using my weekend post as a way to let people know what’s going on in my life, so I decided to rename my weekend post because this feature is more personal than just what books I’ve received. Five years later, The Weekly Rewind continues to be about what’s going on with me and my blog, as well as about the books I’ve added to my shelves. This post is linked to Stacking the Shelves over at Tynga’s Reviews and the Sunday Post over at Caffeinated Book Reviewer.

Life and Blog

Life: Somehow I’ve written even LESS over these past couple of weeks I’ve had off. I spent Christmas in KY with my family, which was lovely. My parents bought a house down there a couple of years ago, but this was the first time I’d made it down. It is a teeny tiny town on a lake. The weather was pretty nice and my sister, her husband and kids, and I took a nice day trip into TN to a couple of waterfall state parks. The eight hour each way drive was a bit brutal on my own (from my house to theirs, not from KY to TN), but it was definitely worth it.

I’ve spent the past week since I’ve been back sick as a dog, though. It’s just a bad cold, but man has it been kicking my behind for days. I finally started feeling a bit better a couple of days ago, but even now I just cleaned my bathroom and huffed and puffed for about 10 minutes afterward. I’m glad I was down for the count when I was already off work, but I definitely had some grand plans for getting my exploding house under control over my break which have not come to fruition. I did tackle my bookshelves which look a tiny bit lighter, but even the probably 100 books I weeded out didn’t make any real dent. I know I don’t need to own every book ever…but I need them all. Lol.

Blog and reading: I was honestly just too sick to even think about blogging, but I hope to knock out a couple of posts right now. I definitely want to do some sort of New Year post and plan on participating in this week’s TTT about most anticipated books for the first half of the year. I plan on getting back to my weekly post about new movie and book releases. As far as reading is concerned, I’ve mostly been concentrating on The Dead Queens Club, although I’ve also been reading the MG 11 Before 12.

New Books: Sorry for the ramble on. I have some awesome new additions to share with you this week. So without further ado, I hope you’re all having fabulous weekends!

For Review

The Dead Queens Club by Hannah Capin

Pretty much as soon as I heard about this book, I wanted to read it. This was easily in my top five most anticipated of 2019. It follows the story of Henry VIII and his six wives, but this is a modernized version set in high school. The narrator of the story is Cleves (short for Cleveland), Henry’s fourth wife (girlfriend) but also his best friend. The story begins during Henry’s fifth relationship with Katie Howard, peppy cheerleader. I’m about halfway through this book, and I’m honestly not sure what to think. It is readable, but weird.

99 Percent Mine by Sally Thorne

Despite The Hating Game being everyone and their mom’s favorite book, I just couldn’t get into it. I’ve read the first chapter no less than 4 different times over the past couple of years…and just cannot do it. From what I’m gathering from early reviews this is a disappointing sophomore effort, but I’m still going to at least read the first chapter a couple of times.

Goodbye Perfect by Sara Barnard

After her best friend runs away with her secret boyfriend, a girl finds out that the boyfriend is actually their music teacher.

What I snagged from the library

11 Before 12 by Lisa Greenwald

Nervous about starting middle school, two friends make a list of eleven things they want to accomplish before they turn twelve.

Assassination Nation

I’m so ridiculously excited for this.

Well that’s it for me this week. Feel free to leave a link to whatever weekend post you do (Stacking the Shelves, The Sunday Post, etc). I love to see what books people have recently snagged and especially enjoy hearing about my fellow bloggers’ weeks. I hope you are all having a fabulous weekend!

  2. We’ve almost streamed Assassination Nation several times but haven’t yet. Maybe soon. Sorry you’ve been under the weather. Seems like quite a few bloggers I know got sick after the holidays. I think we stress ourselves out trying to do so much in December, that when we finally slow down to enjoy it, we get sick. Seems to happen to me or my husband at least once a year around our planned vacation. Hope you feel better soon!
